There are a wide variety of activities to do while you are at the lodge in the winter season. Guests can choose from guided or self guided activities.
The lodge has a variety of winter gear such as cross-country skis, ice skates, snowshoes, and real seal skins for sliding down the snow like tobogganing. You can ice fish, and snow machines are available for rental as well. Any of these activities can be done on your own, or one of the lodge staff can take you out to show you how it is done.
With advance booking, a Dene cultural demonstration can be provided.
SLIDE SHOW
SNOWMOBILING Guests flying in to the lodge for longer stays may rent snow machines based at the lodge. Most guests renting snowmobiles at the lodge prefer to have a guide – especially for the longer and remote trails.
If you rent a snow machine we suggest you first snowmobile within sight of the lodge or on one of the shorter trails after a
safety overview/orientation by one of our staff. Helmets are provided.
Many of the trails we use follow old trails used by Dene and Métis trappers using dog team years ago. They traditionally travelled on the frozen lakes in winter and cut bush trails between lakes or river systems.
Their trail systems ran for hundreds of miles in the Great Slave Lake area and were the early “winter highways”.
