Francois River /Cadeaux family cabin /Watta Lake - 6 Hours Total |
| This trip will take you through portages and lakes surround Blachford including Whiteman, Long, Watta and Hearne Lake (named after Samuel Hearne). You first will head over portage trails of the Whiteman Trail (See trip detail previous) and down to the Cadeaux family trapping cabin used as a fur trapping base by Henry and Mary Cadeaux and their family. See their old chicken shed, tipi, warehouse and cabin. The trail follows beside the open water of a narrows in the Francois River, then a number of beaver ponds to Watta Lake. Watch for sign of moose, caribou, martin, lynx, otter and wolf along the way. You will visit another old trappers cabin on Watta Lake, and check out the many hand carved signatures in the log walls of the old cabin. Another memorable highlight of this trip is to see the open water and waterfalls at the north end of Watta Lake and on to Hearne Lake. Then back towards Long Lake and to the comfort of the hot tub at the lodge back at Blachford Lake. |
