Thor Lake /Great Slave Lake Excursion - 4 Hours Total
A pleasant winding trail heads from Blachford to Thor Lake (rare earths and exploration site). From there we head south on more bush trails and join an old mine access road to the height of land overlooking the east arm of Great Slave Lake and Blanchet Island 10 miles to the south. You wind down the trail to the 5 foot thick ice of Great Slave to view the pressure ridges. These walls of ice are formed by the pressure of pack ice coming together and forming an upheaval of thick ice.
