Northern Alberta is a vast forested region, dotted with lakes, rugged hills and low mountain areas. Northern Alberta is bordered on the south by the aspen parkland ecoregion, and stretches northward to include Wood Buffalo National Park, the largest park in the world. Wide and wild rivers include the Peace and the Athabasca, each offering great fishing, canoeing, boating and rafting. The fisherman will find good opportunites for walleye, northern pike and lake trout at many lakes or rivers in the area. The main feature of northern Alberta is the great northern boreal forest that dominates the landscape and offers sanctuary to its wildlife. It's recent history goes back to the early days of the fur trade, and many communities celebrate the past through historic museums.
