Trip Highlights
| Day 1: |
| In the morning you will meet with your guide at the booked accommodation/agreed meeting point and then drive to the trailhead at 1630m (5300 ft.). The trail goes up through a mature forest of spruce for one hour, then we break into lush meadows of alpine flowers with a stream flowing through. After another hour we hike onto the saddle which gives us perfect views of the Monashee and Cariboo Mountains. It is pure alpine from here to the Trophy Mountain Chalet, which sits at 2153m. The view from the Chalet is superb mountain scenery and the area has great hiking with small peaks, lakes, and flower meadows everywhere. We take a short afternoon hike in the region. The hike from the road takes two and a half hours and we gained 523m. Trophy Mt. Chalet. |
|
| Day 2: |
| On this day we do a long hike in the surrounding mountains, climbing two to three peaks in the range (up to 2601m) and exploring and swimming in the numerous lakes in the Valley of the Lakes. We may be lucky and see the elusive mountain caribou as this area has the largest herd in B.C. |
|
| Day 3: |
| Today we hike north to Table Mountain Chalet, the youngest in our hut to hut system. The route is through total wilderness the whole way a map, a compass and good knowledge of the area are needed. The route takes us over a small peak, down a stream, and across a boulder field to a ridge where we get a full view of the rest of the route. From here we drop back down into the mature forest of spruce and hemlock and lose altitude until we come to a small lake. We follow a pretty stream up through the forest to a large spectacular mountain lake where we have lunch. After lunch, we continue up through alpine meadows until we cross Eagle Pass at 2061m. The hike today was 10 km and took 6-7 hours. |
|
| Day 4: |
| Today we enjoy a relaxed day hike up the surrounding peaks and alpine meadows. This easier day is very welcome between two strenuous days. The evening is spent relaxing and getting ready for tomorrow. |
|
| Day 5: |
| We continue northward up and over Table Mountain. We pick up a decent trail and stay on the trail for the whole day. This area has some of the finest flower meadows in the world and we walk for hours through them. The trail takes us up to the ridge of Table Mountain and then descends into the forest and drops down to Philip Creek. From here the trail is a gentle uphill grade through forest and into the huge meadow system of Caribou and Fight Meadows. After hiking through these meadows we come to Fight Meadow Chalet at 1845m. The chalet is at the base of 52 Ridge and looks out over the meadows into the north face of the Trophy Mountains in the distance. There is a large lake near the chalet which is a historic site where two Indian tribes fought for caribou hunting rights. Today’s hike was 15 km and it takes us 8-9 hours of easy hiking. Fight Meadow Chalet. |
|
| Day 6: |
| From Fight Meadow chalet there are many choices - we may choose 52 Ridge and enjoy a swim in one of the volcanic craters filled with water. We could also wander through the huge meadows and explore or we tackle Battle Mountain hiking across 52 Ridge and dropping down into Bull Valley. The views are 360 degrees and one can see into the far north of the park and see the Monashees, the Cariboos, the Premieres, and the Rockies from here. Hiking time is 6-7 hours. |
|
| Day 7: |
| Today we hike out to the vehicle via Battle Creek. This takes us off the high plateau and down into the Clearwater River Valley. After 4 hours of hiking, we get picked up in the early afternoon for the transfer to the booked accommodation/agreed drop off point. |
