TRIP DETAILS

Trip Highlights
Day 1:
Arrive in Fort Simpson. Time for last minute packing and questions. Flight to the river.
Day 2 to 3:
The next two days are spent at Moose Ponds where you will have a chance to review your strokes and there will be time for a day hike to Mount Wilson. Camp will be near Initiation Rapids.
Day 4 to 6:
The next three days you will encounter some amazing whitewater, comprised of continuous grade II and III rapids known as the Rock Gardens.
Day 7 to 9:
These next three days are a bit tamer as the river flattens out. Points of interest include Moore's Cabin, hot springs and Glacier Lake. Camp is at a gravel bar opposite Rabbit Kettle Lake.
Day 10:
This day allows time for exploration of the Rabbit Kettle Lake area.
Day 11 to 12:
Two days are spent paddling through the valley to Virginia Falls.
Day 13:
Virginia Falls is your destination today. Two nights will be spent in this area exploring the sights.
Day 14:
This day allows hiking and photography opportunities in the area You may want to participate in a day hike up Sunblood Mountain.
Day 15:
You will portage the falls and then embark on an exciting ride through Painted Canyon.
Day 16:
Today you will enter Third Canyon, stopping at The Gate and Pulpit Rock for lunch. You will be able to hike to the top of the canyon and camp will be downstream of Pulpit Rock and The Gate.
Day 17 to 18:
The next two days are spent paddling through the Big Bend and Second Canyon and past Headless Creek. You will be camping in the vicinity of Deadmen Valley
Day 19:
Highlights on this day will be First Canyon, Lafferty's Riffle and White Spray Springs. You will also have a chance to take a dip in Kraus' Hotsprings before setting camp in the area known as The Splits.
Day 20:
While negotiating the huge meanders prior to the native village of Nahanni Butte, you will experience the river valley opening up to meet the forested flat lands. Overnight camp near the village.
Day 21:
Paddling down the Liard River you will end your trip at Lindberg's Landing where a hot shower and BBQ dinner will be waiting for you. Overnight in cabins.
Day 22:
Return to Fort Simpson for departure home.
