TRIP DETAILS

Trip Highlights
Day 1:
Sunday: Day 1: Signal Hill/Cape Spear/Petty Harbor We meet in St. John's; have a short orientation hike, giving guests an opportunity to meet you fellow adventurers. This coastal walk will take us to the most easterly point of land in North America. Cape Spear National Historic Site, and is incredible for observing icebergs, birds and whales. Accommodations: St. John's
Day 2:
Monday: Day 2: Witless Bay Reserve This morning we take a private boat tour around the islands in the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve, to get our first up close to 10,00 year old icebergs. This protected area is also home to thousands of seabirds soaring, nesting, and feeding. Every year, millions of puffins, murres & storm petrels leave the open ocean and come to here to nest & feed. Afternoon hike to an abandoned fishing village. Accommodations: St. John's
Day 3:
Tuesday: Day 3: St. John's Day/George Street Night We will experience Newfoundland's unique culture today; a visit The Rooms, our province's newest public cultural museum. Lunch is at world famous St. John's landmark known for its excellent fish and chips. After this you will be dropped off on Water Street to "twack" ( a Newfoundland word for window shopping) strolling the narrow lanes, enjoying many colourful boutiques and shops. Tonight we experience the uniqueness of George Street's live Irish music scene. The 3 block long zone has the highest density of bars and pubs of any street in North America. Accommodations: St. John's
Day 4:
Wednesday: Day 4: Kayaking/Dinner Theater Today we explore the renowned sea kayak destination of Cape Broyle. Inside this protected fjord beginner kayakers can paddle alongside icebergs, humpback, minke and other whales, go inside numerous sea caves, under waterfalls and through arches. After our beach picnic we'll have excellent walking opportunities to look down on the seascape we had just paddled. Accommodations: Ferryland
Day 5:
Thursday: Day 5: Colony of Avalon Hike along another section of the East Coast Trail to Ferryland to explore the ongoing archeological dig "The Colony of Avalon", the first colony of North America. On this walk we will enjoy thunderous waterfalls, riverside paths, cobble beaches and nesting seabirds. Gourmet Picnic lunch is served outdoors or if weather is inclement we can go inside a recently renovated lighthouse converted into a unique tea room. Tonight we dine at a lively local live dinner theater in Ferryland. Accommodations: Ferryland
Day 6:
Friday: Day 6 Another great day of coastal kayaking with icebergs and whales. There are several locations that our guides will choose to place guests in the best location to experience more icebergs. Accommodation: Ferryland
Day 7:
Saturday: Day 7 The morning offers options of a quick paddle again or a light walk on the cliffs and beaches before returning to St. John's and we head to the airport for our final goodbyes.
