For the more adventurous, add-on boat tours and wildlife watching are available. A full day boat excursion on Soper Lake is just one of the options. The tour begins at the community of Soper Lake and takes you to Soper Falls. After a short portage at Soper Falls, you will board a second boat and spend 3-5 hours cruising through Katannilik Park on the Soper River. Your guide will be at your disposal to stop anywhere along the river. This is an excellent opportunity to see the plants and animals of this unique arctic oasis. Caribou, waterfalls, abundant flowers and the only trees on Baffin Island can be seen up close. During the months of May and June, you have an unique opportunity to participate in a floe edge day trip. You can spend a day with an Inuit guide at the point where the frozen ice meets the open sea. For generations, Inuit hunters have visited these areas and found the abundance of sea mammals and birds needed to sustain their families through the winter. Today, you can enjoy the beauty of the floe edge and appreciate its uniqueness. Excellent location for viewing caribou, seals, whales and even polar bears.
