Whitewater rafting on the Kootenay River

Paddle the scenic Kootenay River on this introductory whitewater rafting trip. This is family vacation fun at its finest. Raft Class 2 and 3 rapids on this superior family adventure. Carrying a distinctive wilderness feel, this one day outing is a delightful 30 mile frolic down the more spirited stretches of the Kootenay. Featuring boisterous whitewater, exquisite Rockies scenery, and the chance of seeing wildlife. You depart from the Radium office at 9:00am and return by 5:00pm. This trip includes a morning snack and a traditional riverside buffet lunch. Great for kids as young as five. Grandparents are welcome.

Whitewater rafting on the Kootenay River

A shortened version of the all day, the half day trip takes you on a swift and lively 12 mile stretch of the Kootenay. You are served a brunch of hot and cold drinks, cheese, pastry and fruit on this morning excursion. Trips leave from the Radium office at 9:00 A.M. and return by 1:30 P.M. The office is located minutes from the beautiful Radium Hot Springs Pools. We recommend you bring your swimsuit and take the opportunity to soak in the naturally heated waters of these world famous pools.

Season: mid June to mid September
Suggested Items: Camera, sunscreen.
Suggested Clothing: Warm jacket or sweater (fleece or wool), sun hat, river sandals or running shoes, swimsuits for younger kids, quick dry pants or shorts, change of clothes.
Difficulty: Easy/Intermediate
Restrictions: Trip is suitable for kids 5 and older. Maximum of 12 people per raft.
Maximum Number of People: 32
Equipment Provided: Rain pants and jacket, pfds, helmets, wet suits for younger children, waterproof storage bags, shoes if needed.
Transportation: Trips originate and end at Radium Hotsprings, BC. From Banff take Highway #1 west to Castle Junction (Highway 93). Exit onto Highway 93 towards Radium Hotsprings. Follow the highway until you pass the Kootenay National Park Gate and enter the town of Radium. The office is about 500 m past the park gate on the right hand side.
Accommodations: Not included in the package but available at local lodges, hotels and resorts.
Meal Information: Snack and lunch included on the full day. Brunch included on the half day tour.
Guide Information: All the guides are professional river guides. They go through vigorous testing before they are allowed to guide. They are certified in Wilderness First Aid and swift water rescue.
Weather Information: Summer temperatures will average from 15 to 25 degrees Celsius.
Comments: Prices do not include $3 river access permit fee.
