ABOUT THIS REGION  HORSE PACK TRIPS

Pack horse trips in the Chilcotin Mountains

This is the ultimate wilderness horsepack trip adventure. Ride into the backcountry like an explorer, pack horses in tow. Travel the Chilcotin Mountains in nomadic style, seeing new scenery each day. Follow game trails, cross rivers and glaciers and ride through valleys echoing with the whistles of scurring marmots. Enjoy open air lunches with the world's best views. There is lots to do on the first day. Your guides will take care in matching you with your Cayuse horse and saddle and all the 'kinks' will be worked out during your extensive orientation to western mountain riding. That evening, maps and itineraries need reviewing, and we will help you pack your personal duffel bag. Then, it is early to bed in anticipation of an early morning departure from the ranch. During your high alpine adventure, you will see sweeping mountaintop vistas, turquoise green glaciers and snow caves. Abundant wildlife, including mountain goats, Bighorn sheep, mule deer, moose, wolf, Grizzlies and black bear, are viewed through high powered scopes. There is so much on this trip to learn about wildlife habits and the wilderness.

Pack horse trips in the Chilcotin Mountains

During this horsepack adventure you can ride all day without seeing another person. Travel passes once used by Pioneers and later for prospectors, then down into wide U shaped valleys with their mosiac of wildflowers, wild hay meadows and big game mineral licks. There is plenty of time for fishing, gold panning, and exploring ancient geological features. If your main interest is fishing, let us know and we will select your camp accordingly to lake or stream interests.

Rubber boots should be mid-calf.
Difficulty: Easy/Intermediate

There are shared indoor washrooms and showers. The alpine camps vary between fully equipped permanent base camps and seasonal camps. Some of the permanent camps are more developed with gravity fed showers, solar lighting and heaters in the tent cabins.

Feed your newfound appetite on unlimited fresh fruit and vegetables, lots of homemade baking, and delicious and hearty main courses. Your hosts will cook your catch or create vegetarian dishes to suit your style of eating. Enjoy open air lunches and campfire meals.
Guide Information: The ranch has an outstanding calibre of licensed guides. They come from varied backgrounds and their expertise is matched to each trip. You will be impressed with their abilities to communicate with guests from every walk of life and level of outdoor skill. Most important, they know how to judge situations, and assess and determine the abilities and limits of the guests. Every trip must be educational, safe and enjoyable.
Weather Information: This 5,000 square km guide territory lies within a transition zone between the Coast Mountains and the Chilcotin Plateau. This favoured position produces a "rainshadow". This means sunny skies and a dry bug-free environment.
