Alpine fishing in the southern Chilcotin Mountains

Enjoy some of the best river fishing in Canada on this alpine fishing adventure. Whether you're a trout fishing enthusiast with a custom rod, or a beginner angler with an urge to hook a magnificent rainbow trout, these remote mountain lakes, rivers, ponds and streams within our 5,000 sq. km angling territory will fulfill your dreams. Picture eagles gliding on mid-day up drafts and a surrounding panorama of peaks and forested terrain. Complete the picture with wild native rainbow trout shattering the mountain reflections on the surface of the lake. Your licensed angling guide is knowledgeable on wildlife and the environment, as well as on the best flies to use and where the big ones hide out.

Alpine fishing in the southern Chilcotin Mountains

Fish for wild rainbow trout, brook trout, dolly varden and kokanee in over 25 remote mountain lakes, rivers, ponds and streams. Fly-in camp or ranch based options are 4 day all-inclusive adventures suited to individuals, or small groups. All-inclusive 4 day Fly-In Fishing Schools are suited to a range of anglers, individuals or small groups. Licensed angling instructors teach the fundamentals of fly and spin casting, seasonal patterns and how to find the big ones! Access to your Spruce Lake camp - jewel of the South Chilcotin Mountains Park - is by floatplane. These all-inclusive packages include your accommodation, meals, fly-fishing lessons, licensed guide and transportation during the trip.

Season: June to October
Requirements: For the base camps bring sleeping bag, flashlight, towel and face cloth, headband, toque, biodegradable soap and shampoo, western hat with brim, bandanna, rain pants/jacket, sunscreen, sunglasses, camera, spare battery, film, warm jacket, binoculars, fishing equipment, gloves, medication for allergies.
Suggested Items: Camera, daypack, sunglasses, sunscreen, water bottle, guitar, alcoholic beverages.
Suggested Clothing: You should bring at least two complete changes of clothing in case you get wet. If the weather turns bad the toque is for night and the headband is for daytime.
Difficulty: Easy/Intermediate
Transportation: Trips originate and end at the ranch, near Gold Bridge, BC. During the summer season take Highway 99 from Vancouver to Whistler and then Pemberton. Take the Hurley Pass Forestry Road to the ranch. Van transfer from Vancouver to the ranch are included. The van accommodates up to 8 passengers and luggage and departure is from the Sheraton Guildford in Surrey at 7 am.
Accommodations: Choose between a permanent alpine camp or comfortable 8 bedroom guest ranch. Camp accommodations are at a permanent, high alpine base camp on Spruce Lake at 1,700 meters. The camp has spacious tent cabins with heaters and a gravity fed hot shower. There is a pioneer log cookhouse for meals.
Meal Information: Delicious meals prepared in the cookhouse. You will find it hard to believe you are in the wilderness when you are dining on this legendary western fare. Feed your newfound appetite on unlimited fresh fruit and vegetables, lots of homemade baking, and delicious and hearty main courses. Your hosts will cook your catch or create vegetarian dishes to suit your style of eating. Enjoy open air lunches and campfire meals.
Guide Information: The ranch has an outstanding calibre of licensed guides. They come from varied backgrounds and their expertise is matched to each trip. You will be impressed with their abilities to communicate with guests from every walk of life and level of outdoor skill. Most important, they know how to judge situations, and assess and determine the abilities and limits of the guests. Every trip must be educational, safe and enjoyable.
Weather Information: This 5,000 square km guide territory lies within a transition zone between the Coast Mountains and the Chilcotin Plateau. This favoured position produces a "rainshadow". This means sunny skies and a dry bug-free environment.
