ABOUT THIS REGION  GUEST RANCH VACATIONS

Summer adventures at a 4-season guest ranch

Enjoy a variety of summer activities at this all season wilderness adventure guest ranch in the southern Chilcotin Mountains. Western hospitality, all the activities of a true western lifestyle, and tried and tested mountain Cayuse horses matched to your abilities! This adventure ranch in the Chilcotin Mountains packs in a lot of activities but it is your option to choose between leisure, action packed or something in between. Your guides will take care in matching your group according to abilities, interests and even ages. That's right. You won't find adults mixed with a family, and you won't find novice mixed with advanced. Families are matched with families, especially important for the children. If you bring your own group, you can have the ranch for your own private adventure. Your guides teach Registered Wilderness Guide Training Programs, so they are real good with novice and young riders. You will be impressed with your thorough introduction to western mountain riding as you learn to control your Cayuse horse by practising horse sports in the gymkhana. Whether it is the 'River Ride' or 'Eldorado Pass', you will find each ride cleverly crafted to gradually take you to new heights. If you are advanced, the alpine is just a short ride away with high passes and 360 degree views of the surrounding mountains. Mule deer, mountain goat, moose, Grizzly and Black bear are regularily seen. This is not just trail riding.

When you are not riding, there is healthy and abundant food. Enjoy the library, swim or fish at the nearby lake, or play a board game before enjoying the camaraderie of the evening campfire. Bring your guitar or other portable instrument and song books. If you are a family group, sun tan on our large deck overlooking the Bendor Range and spectate while your children have riding lessons. The guides are available for target practice, bareback lessons, horse logging demonstrations and horseshoe throwing competitions. Get involved in shoeing a horse, throwing the diamond on the pack or throwing a lariat. You can tour the turn of the century mining towns, visit a mining or chain saw museum, pan for gold in Gun Creek or drive to the foot of a glacier and explore old pioneer cabins. During winter substitute activities with ice fishing, horse drawn sleigh rides, snowshoeing, restricted horseback riding and snowmobiling. Christmas and New Year's specials are also available.

Summer adventures at a 4-season guest ranch

Season: May to October
Requirements: Sunscreen, sunglasses, insect repellent, good camera, spare battery, lots of film, binoculars, medication for allergies, fishing equipment, water bottle.
Suggested Clothing: Western hat with brim, bandana, rain pants and jacket (no ponchos), comfortable riding pants (jeans), warm jacket (down or wool), long johns, slippers or indoor shoes for ranch, light weight lycra shorts or padded biker shorts, footwear for riding (good ankle support), rubber boots or gum boots, 2 pairs of gloves, one for riding, one insulated, 1 pair of socks per day, personal toiletries and clothing. Bring at least two changes of clothes in case you get wet. Heavy rain gear is less likely to tear. The lycra shorts are worn under your jeans to prevent chafing and soreness. Equipment Provided: Horses/tack, use of ancillary equipment.
Transportation: Trips originate and end at the ranch, near Gold Bridge, BC. During the summer season take highway 99 from Vancouver to Whistler and then Pemberton. Take the Hurley Pass Forestry Road to the ranch. Van transfer from Vancouver to the ranch are included. The van accommodates up to 8 passengers and luggage and departure is from the Sheraton Guildford in Surrey at 7 am.
Accommodations: Accommodations are at comfortable rooms at the ranch, with a varied combination of sleeping arrangements (ie. queen, twin, bunk) all with feather duvets. The ranch is spacious, complete with two story fireplace, sun room, large central dining room. There are shared indoor washrooms and showers.
Meal Information: All meals are included. You will find it hard to believe you are in the wilderness when you are dining on this legendary western fare. Feed your newfound appetite on unlimited fresh fruit and vegetables, lots of homemade baking, and delicious and hearty main courses. Your hosts will cook your catch or create vegetarian dishes to suit your style of eating.
Guide Information: The ranch has an outstanding calibre of licensed guides. They come from varied backgrounds and their expertise is matched to each trip. You will be impressed with their abilities to communicate with guests from every walk of life and level of outdoor skill. Most important, they know how to judge situations, and assess and determine the abilities and limits of the guests. Every trip must be educational, safe and enjoyable.
Weather Information: This 5,000 square km guide territory lies within a transition zone between the Coast Mountains and the Chilcotin Plateau. This favoured position produces a "rainshadow". This means sunny skies and a dry bug-free environment.
Comments: Difficulty can vary depending on the requests of the participants. Beginner to advanced trips available. Room tax is only on a portion of ranch accommodations.
