Cowboy living at a working western cattle ranch
Experience the life of a cowboy in the true prairielands of Canada at one of our Saskatchewan working cattle ranches. These ranch packages will introduce you the day to day activities of a working cattle ranch. Spend your days riding through the countryside or stay at the ranch and help with the workings of the farm. The more adventurous can learn the ropes tying a lasso, roping cattle and barrel racing. Or pack the horses for a trail ride or an overnight campout under the stars. There are horses to suit every rider from beginner to experienced. When you're not in the saddle, there is plenty to do. Walk down to Lake Diefenbaker for swimming, boating, canoeing, waterskiing and jetskiing. Fish for Walleye and Northern Pike. Or find a private spot along 200-kilometers of sandy beaches. Hiking in the rolling hills, you're sure to glimpse the untouched wildlife and view deer, coyotes, foxes and owls, Golden Eagles and pelicans. The landscape changes its palette with the seasons, from the purple crocus in spring to the pink flowering cactus in summer to the splendor of golden colours in the fall. In the evening, do what the cowboys do. A game of horseshoes, dummy steer roping, archery or a visit to the saloon where there is a pool table, foosball and darts. Listen to country music or sit in the hot tub under the stars. End the day with the crackle of a romantic campfire and a cowboy sing-a-long.

These ranches also offer once-a-year seasonal activities. One of the most popular times on the ranch is early June, when the cattle are rounded up for an old-time authentic branding. Guest ranch hands should plan to visit for at least ten days in order to get acquainted with the operation and their horse before branding day. Also popular is the fall cattle drive in late September/early October when the cattle are rounded up from the pastures and brought home to prepare for winter.
