ABOUT THIS REGION  CANOEING - RIVER TRIPS

South Saskatchewan River novice canoe adventure

This prairie river trip is a chance to get your feet wet on an easy-going introductory canoeing excursion. One night out in a tent to discover how much fun it can be, plus two short days of paddling on a stretch of river near the City of Saskatoon will give you a taste of the intriguing world of canoe camping. There will be plenty of how-to instruction with the emphasis on safety and enjoyment. We'll carry everything in our canoes to create a comfortable, wilderness style campsite on the river bank, mid-way on our route. Paddling easily with the steady current, you'll have time to relax, swim in sandy backwater shoals, enjoy tasty campfire meals and experience the best of the river's natural attractions on the fringe of Saskatoon.

South Saskatchewan River novice canoe adventure

The South Saskatchewan River gathers water mostly from the eastern slopes of Western Canada's Rocky Mountains. It crosses the prairies of southern Alberta and Saskatchewan as it eventually makes its way eastward to Hudson's Bay. From Lake Diefenbaker, the river's fresh waters flow northward through the City of Saskatoon. The river winds its way through an agricultural upland as it flows toward Saskatoon, but down in the valley bottom it presents a wilderness-like aura. Plenty of wildlife, few tourists and lots of solitude -- these are elements of a well-kept secret that only a few adventurers experience first-hand. Join this privileged group by discovering the secret for yourself on this short overnight canoeing adventure.
