ABOUT THIS REGION  FLY IN FISHING CAMPS - LAKES

Outpost fishing camp Drury Lake, Yukon

Located 115 air miles north-northeast of Whitehorse, Yukon is Drury Lake. This is an exceptional lake trout and arctic grayling fishery. Drury Lake is 15 miles long plus Drury Creek is navigable for two miles. Drury has produced lake trout over 35 pounds and northern pike up to 15 pounds, but is best known for its arctic grayling (up to four pounds). There is excellent stream fishing for arctic grayling in Drury Creek, whether flyfishing or using spinning gear. The large 14' x 20' eight man cabin is set in a stand of beautiful white spruce. The lake is surrounded by the beautiful Pelly Mountains.

Outpost fishing camp Drury Lake, Yukon

You will have the camp and the lake all to yourself as there are no other camps on the lake and no other party will be booked with yours. You'll only find an unrestricted schedule where you can fish, relax and enjoy the Yukon wilderness at your own pace. Gear suggestions: One medium weight-spinning rod with ten to fifteen pound line on a good quality reel is adequate. An ultra light spinning outfit is recommended for grayling, with 4-6 lb line. If you are a fly-fisherman, bring your fly rod, both floating and sinking lines, plus heavy leaders for the trout and pike. Trout and Pike flyfishing requires a fairly heavy rod (8wt+). Streamer flies should be large: 2.5"- 4" in length. They should have a minnow-like action. White, yellow and red are common and successful colors. Fly fishing for grayling requires much lighter gear with a 4-6 wt rod being best, full sink and sink tip lines and tapered leaders. Sinking patterns are more productive than floating patterns, with darker patterns (i.e. black gnat, mosquito, wooly bugger, doc sprately) being best in sizes 6-14. Each tackle box should also have needle-nose pliers, 6"-9" steel leaders, snap swivels, fish handling gloves and a selection of sinkers and lures. For Lake Trout - Almost any 3"-6" diving plug will do. A favourite is the Bagley extra-deep shad. Most 3"-5" spoons also work well. A few of our favourites are: 3" chartreuse Kit-A-Mat; 3" and 5" Five of Diamonds; 3" Little Cleos; 5" Crocodiles; 3" Kamloopers; 3" Kastmasters. 1/2 oz. lead headed jigs with red and white bodies work very well. For Pike also add surface plugs, bucktail spinners and daredevil spoons. As for general lure colour: chartreuse, orange, red, white and yellow combinations for the best action.
