The highlight for a rafter includes numerous Grade 2-3 sections of whitewater, Pedley falls, spire like hoodoos near White River, Gibraltar Rock and many good camp sites. Historically the Kootenay or Kutenai Indians traveled through the iver valley but archaeological evidence shows that the broad open Columbia River valley was a more common place of occupation for these natives. Sir George Simpson, governor of the Hudson Bay Company traveled up the River valley in 1841 enroute to Sinclair Pass and the Columbia River. The trip ends at Canal Flats where the Kootenay River continues south through the Rocky Mountain trench.
