Canoe trip on the Dease River

Discover rugged wilderness as you head out to paddle the Dease River, located in Northern British Columbia, adjacent to the Stikine drainage. The Dease River flows north through the Cassiar Mountains into the Liard basin. It is an easy river paddle with stunning mountain views, great fishing and good wildlife viewing opportunities. This trip is well suited for novices - no prior wilderness experience is necessary. The Dease River is a Class I to II rated river and is well suited to paddlers with limited experience. You will paddle 4 to 6 hours a day.

Located in northeastern British Columbia, the Dease River from Dease Lake to Liard River used to be one of the most important water highways in the province, and saw its last great use during the construction of the Alaska Highway. Nowadays, the Dease River is experiencing a bit of a renaissance, as paddlers discover this 162-mile (265-km) waterway and It’s mostly Class I and II rapids.

Season: August to September
Requirements: Sleeping bag and sleeping pad.
Suggested Items: Camera, daypack, fishing gear, fishing license, water bottle.
Suggested Clothing: Jacket, long pants, shorts, t-shirts, rain gear, hiking boots, walking shoes, hat.
Difficulty: Easy/Intermediate
Restrictions: Minimum group size of 3 required. Rates available for smaller groups. This is considered and novice to intermediate canoe trip. Some paddling skills are recommended. Participants must be in good health.
Maximum Number of People: 5
Equipment Provided: All canoeing and camping equipment (except sleeping bag and pad).
Transportation: The trip begins and ends in Whitehorse, Yukon.
Accommodations: Accommodations are in hotels while in Whitehorse and in campsites along the route while on the river.
Meal Information: All meals and snacks during the trip are included. Meals while in Whitehorse are not included.
Guide Information: Professional guide services for the duration of the trip is included. The guides are all trained in wilderness travel and are first aid certified. They are well familiar with the Dease River and are looking forward to sharing their knowledge about nature and history of the area.
