ABOUT THIS REGION  MOUNTAIN BIKE TRIPS

Self guided bike trip on the Kettle Valley Railway

Cycle the famous Kettle Valley Railway on this self-guided bike trip in the Okanagan region of British Columbia. KVR (Kettle Valley Railway) is an abandoned railway bed that winds through south central British Columbia. It was originally built in the early 1900's but the ribbons of steel that made up the Kettle Valley Railway are gone. All that is left are 16 km (9.9 mi.) of track, the odd station house and out buildings, a few relics and the history. As a result, these abandoned railway corridors hold unparalleled opportunities as recreational trails. This corridor is one of the most dynamic routes in Canada, with some truly impressive scenery and spectacular views. As a railway line, its steepest grade is 2%! This makes for an easy bicycle ride or hike, especially downhill.

Self-guided bike tours can be arranged from a local resort on Osprey Lake. Packages can be customized but an example would be as follows: You make your own way to the town of Princeton for a Friday late afternoon pick up. You leave your car in Princeton and you and your bike are shuttled to the resort on Osprey Lake for dinner. Saturday morning you fuel up at breakfast and ride the downhill 50 km cruise to Summerland. Take a box lunch with you to keep your energy up. Get picked up in Summerland and shuttled back to the resort for a gourmet dinner. Sunday morning you have breakfast at the resort, take another box lunch and hit the road for a 45 km coast down to Princeton before returning to your car and heading home.
