Bella Coola Grizzly Bear Tour

View grizzly bears as you travel through scenic British Columbia from Vancouver to Bella Coola. This trip is an interpretive wilderness tour into the heart of the central coast of British Columbia where there is a high density of grizzly and black bears. The focus of the trip is to see bears in a true wilderness setting. You will be taken into an off-the-beaten track area and immersed in a real wilderness setting to understand the ecology and culture of this fantastic wilderness frontier. Our local knowledge allows you access to some fantastic sights and fascinating characters that call this place home. In addition to the bear viewing, this tour includes a raft trip on the Bella Coola River, native cultural tours and historical tours along the route.

Bella Coola Grizzly Bear Tour

This trip is perfect for wildlife enthusiasts and budding wildlife photographers alike wanting quality wildlife (BEAR!) viewing opportunities but don't want all the frills! This is a holiday with a difference for anyone with a love for nature. The trip heads away from the crowds into some of the most unspoilt areas where most tourists don't venture! The activity level of the trip is low and is suitable for all ages and levels of fitness ages.

Bella Coola Grizzly Bear Tour

Season: late August to late September
Requirements: You will require a sleeping bag on this tour although we can provide one if given advance notice.
Suggested Items: Camera, daypack, sunglasses, sunscreen, water bottle.
Suggested Clothing: Bring appropriate clothing suitable for autumn weather. Warm jacket, hiking boots, rain gear. A detailed kit list will be sent.
Difficulty: Easy/Intermediate

Equipment Provided: 15 passenger van which will be used to transport the group during the trip, camping fees, park fees, satellite phone.
Transportation: Trips begin and end in Vancouver, BC. On Day 8 you have the option of driving back to Vancouver with the guides, or arranging your own air or ferry transportation south.
Accommodations: Accommodations in Bed & Breakfasts and cabins along the route. B&B's are quiet, clean and comfortable accommodation. Private double rooms will be allocated. There will be a supplement for those wanting a private single. The River Cabins are rustic. Fresh water is provided but there is no running water. The toilet is an outdoor pit toilet, perfectly comfortable but with no flush! The cabins are really a highlight of the trip being a great place to see wildlife, have a campfire and generally soak up the wilderness atmosphere.
Meal Information: Breakfast and lunch will be provided throughout the trip and most evening meals. Local fare, such as salmon, feature prominently in the menus.
Guide Information: This tour will be accompanied by a professional tour guide. The local guides used throughout the trip are all residents and are selected on the basis of their skills, knowledge and unique characteristics. While qualifications and experience are essential requirements, it is also the local knowledge of the area which is an important element in leading a tour. The tour guide holds a current advanced wilderness first aid certificate and has experience in dealing with the symptoms often associated with spending time in the wilderness. The tour guide will have a comprehensive first aid kit to deal with most eventualities and emergencies. However it is advised that each individual has a basic first aid kit to deal with minor medical issues such as blisters, insect bites and sunburn.
Weather Information: The trip departures are scheduled for September, the best time for bear viewing when there is a high concentration of grizzlies congregating along the rivers to feed on the spawning salmon. While the weather can be unpredictable the days are usually clear sunny and warm.
