The Babine River-aka "River of Grizzlies" - plays host to a steelhead and Pacific salmon-spawning season every year between July and late September. These magnificent fish run so thick in places; you might think it's possible to walk across the river on their backs. And no one could be more pleased than the migratory population of over 100 grizzlies, often in plain view while fishing at 'Grizzly Drop'. You may observe them while cruising past in a raft … at a comfy distance. Besides the bears, hundreds of bald eagles, also attracted by the great fishing, can be easily spotted. Other birds of prey include the golden eagle, rough-legged hawk, red-tailed hawk and peregrine falcon. Mergansers are found throughout the river system and you might occasionally see migrating flocks of Canada geese. Towering cedars and hemlock rim the shore; beyond is a forest floor rich in mosses and ferns, home to other mammals including wolf, wolverine, lynx, marten, mink and moose.
