ABOUT THIS REGION  CORPORATE MEETINGS & RETREATS

Fly fishing at Fortress Lake with the McLennans

A corporate retreat to remember! Join the McLennans at Fortress Lake, BC for spectacular brook trout fishing in one of the most beautiful locations in the Canadian Rockies. Fortress Lake lies deep in the Rockies, just west of Jasper National Park. It provides the best fly fishing for trophy brook trout west of Labrador. The McLennan have been teaching fly fishing in Alberta for over 30 years, and have a sound reputation. Jim and Lynda have been fishing at Fortress Lake on numerous occasions over the past 15 years. On these hosted trips to Fortress Lake, in Hamber Provincial Park, the McLennans will be available to offer fly fishing instruction and techniques during your stay. These trips are perfect for a corporate group, as an incentive & reward trip or as a retreat. They can be completely customized to your group's needs, and can be set up as an instructional course or fly fishing school. There is also river fishing available in the nearby Wood River, and endless hiking opportunities, kayaking and canoeing.

Fly fishing at Fortress Lake with the McLennans

Jim McLennan is a well known fly fisherman, author and instructor. Jim was one of the first guides on Alberta's legendary Bow River, working the river from 1976-1982. During that time Jim introduced many famous fly fishers to the wonders of the Bow including Leigh Perkins, Lefty Kreh, A.J. McClane, Ernest Schwiebert, and Charles Waterman.. He has written three books about fly fishing. Blue Ribbon Bow was initially published in coffee-table format in 1987, and received the Outdoor Book of the Year Award from the Outdoor Writers of Canada. This edition is now out of print, but a revised and updated edition was published in 1998. Trout Streams of Alberta, a Canadian best-seller, was published in 1996 and received the Andy Russell Nature Writing Award. His latest book, Fly Fishing Western Trout Streams, was published by Stackpole in 2003. Jim's writing appears frequently in major outdoor magazines, including Fly Fisherman, for whom he is Editor At Large. Lynda McLennan has fly-fished in her home province of Alberta since 1976. A natural teacher, she has taught fly fishing for shops and at fly fishing gatherings since 1985. She was a founding director of Casting For Life, a weekend fly fishing retreat for breast cancer survivors. Though her home waters are in southern Alberta, she has fly-fished many places in Western Canada, the U.S. and New Zealand. Her photography appears frequently in numerous outdoor magazines.
