ABOUT THIS REGION  WESTERN - COWBOY VACATIONS

Cattle drives and more at a working cattle ranch

Come and experience the life of a cowboy on one of these western cultural ranch packages in Alberta's Porcupine Hills. 'City Slickers' can participate in the experience of a authentic cattle drive. This 3 day, 25 mile adventure involves lots of riding and is suitable for beginner riders but you return to the comfort of the guest ranch each evening.

Cattle drives and more at a working cattle ranch

For the more experience cowboy, try one of the western cow camp adventures. These are for experienced riders who like to camp under the stars in the beautiful Porcupine Hills. These trips involve long hours in the saddle, lots of cattle work, wildlife viewing and simply enjoying nature at its finest. On these cow camps guests stay in a comfortable tent camp away from the ranch house in the beautiful Porcupine Hills. The cow camp adventure would be enjoyable for guests with riding experience and able to ride for long periods of time. The terrain is varied as is the pace, but most of the riding is done at a walk or trot. Cantering or galloping is only done when necessary to bring the cattle back into line. A usual day would see everyone in the saddle by 9:30 AM and back to camp around 5:00 PM. For the first day, however, everyone is in the saddle by 11:00 AM returning to camp at 6:30 or 7 PM. A mid-day break is taken for lunch (which is packed along) and. breakfast & supper are served at camp.
