Guests will stop at unique features along the way for interpretation, birding, or to enjoy the scenery. Here is a lists of the stops:
- SPROAT FALLS where the local indigenous culture had their winter camp. The guide will comment on how fishing was done, the number and species of salmon using the fish ladder, and tell a story of a massacre that occurred 300 years ago.
- SPROAT LAKE viewpoint at a historic plaque giving some of the history of the settle ment of the area. The guide will elabourate on the plaque.
- TAYLOR RIVER Rest Stop is where the guests will find out about the Tay Fire, a huge fire that threatened to destroy Port Alberni. The remnants of it are still visible on the mountain slopes. Washroom facilities are available here.
- KENNEDY CANYON is a unique, private and exquisite spot where the Kennedy River flows through a narrow rocky gorge over two falls and into deep clear pool at the bottom. There is evidence of how water has worn the once rugged rock into smooth holes and curves. This is a very special place!
- AMPHITRITE POINT is the location of a lighthouse and the trail head of the famous Wild Pacific Trail. Guests will arrive at this spot just before lunch. We will have enough time to enjoy a gourmet lunch and spend some time walking the trail before returning to the public wharf to meet the MV Frances Barkley.
- WICKANINNISH CENTRE where you will have your choice of browsing through the interpretive centre or walking the beach. This particular spot is close to some coastal dunes. It is also close to a beach that was one of Group of Seven artist, Arthur Lismer's favourite beaches.
