Snowmobiling expeditions in Canada's high arctic

Join us in our romance with the High Arctic on one of our northern snowmobiling expeditions. Snowmobile with professional Inuvialuit guides across Canada's frozen Barrens and Arctic islands. Be an "Explorateur et Exploratrice d'Arctique", and follow in the footsteps of the adventurers from the 1800's searching for the NorthWest Passage. Sleep in an igloo, embrace the full moon, dance with the Aurora Borealis, walk with: muskox, caribou, wolves. Breathe in deeply... and experience the clean air, and the stark never ending beauty of the Arctic expanse. More of the gifts you will enjoy: Polar deserts, brilliant aurora, 3 hour sunsets, ancient Thule Inuit sites, sometimes polar bear, always friendly people & stunning spectacular country. On the four day trip, for two+ days you will be snowmobiling from Holman north across the Diamond Jenness Peninsula , then across Minto Inlet to the Boot Inlet cabin where we will overnight. & then return to Holman. There will be much to see: abandoned Thule site, tent rings, caribou, musk-ox, wolves, fox maybe polar bear & the unforgettable aurora borealis. We will try to coordinate your trip with a full moon event. On the 8 day tours you have two options: FROM HOLMAN: For five+ days you will be snowmobiling from Holman along the length of Prince Albert Sound on Victoria Island . One night on the trail will be spent in an igloo and the other four trail nights will be spent in four different rustic cabins on the Sound's north shore. Wildlife can be abundant: musk-ox, caribou, wolves, fox, sometime polar bear. We try to time these expeditions with a full moon phase and active aurora (note: by mid May there is no darkness). We can accommodate up to four people per expedition. Total snowmobile travel ~450km/280 miles FROM PAULATUK: For 5 plus days you will be snowmobiling mostly on the Parry Peninsula. The first 2 days of t ravel wil be to the Cape Parry DEW line site on the Amundsen Gulf. Two days travel down the west side of the Parry Penninsula and one day, weather and time permitting, on excursions in the Ruben Lake area to the west of Paulatuk. We will be on the trail staying in cabins and tents for 5 days. Total snowmobile ~ 450km/280 miles. We can accomodate up to 6 people per expedition; we try to schedule with a full moon. Snowmobile experience would be an advantage. You will be living close to the Inuvialuit ways. These trips can challenge who you are.. yet provide you with the singular experience of a lifetime.

| Requirements: Arctic sleeping bag good to -40 F, helmet, goggles, sunscreen, sunglasses. You are limited to one bag or suitcase per person. |

| Suggested Clothing: Arctic clothing, parka, snow boots and snowmpants good to -40 F, neck tube, warm mittens, warm fleece or wool underclothes, wool socks, camp shoes/boots, long underwear, toque/hat, gloves. |

| Restrictions: Minimum group size of 2 required. Snowmobile experience is essential. You will be living close to the Inuvialuit ways. These trips can challenge who you are. There is no alcohol permitted on these tours but there will be a feast with alcoholic beverages after the journey's end. |

| Equipment Provided: Snowmobiles, fuel, oil, tents, various native cultural traditions such as drum dances and elder's storytelling. |
| Transportation: Tour to Victoria Island begins and ends in Holman, NWT. Tour to Parry Peninsula begins and ends in Paulatuk, NWT. |
| Accommodations: Generally you will spend the first and last nights in the respective community (Holman or Paulatuk) hotel or bed & breakfast. Depending on the route selected you will be staying in igloo, cabins or tents or a combination of the three. |
| Meal Information: All meals while on the expedition are included. The guides usually do the cooking with assistance from the participants. The Inuvialuit guides may hunt along the way and you will likely be eating caribou or muskox. |
| Guide Information: Experienced Inuvialuit guides will accompany you on the tours. They will be responsible for most of the cooking and camp set up and they are happy to share their native traditions and culture with you. |
| Weather Information: Average April temperatures are +15 to -5 F. May temperatures are +28 to +10 F. April and May are the sunniest months of the year. Snow conditions in all areas are usually 1-2 feet of snow in this part of the central Arctic. Near Arctic Ocean shoreline ice conditions can be bumpy but easily passable. In the Arctic the weather rules, so scheduled days must require flexibility. |
| Comments: Easy going attitude is compulsory, participation is expected in setup & camp duties. Special note: able seniors are welcome.. one of our guides is past 65. Last year our clients included one gentleman 66 another was 76 and they both fitted in perfectly.
