Fishing for salmon and halibut on these day charters from Ucluelet, British Columbia. The winter season of November to April offers much more than just fishing, but an entire west coast seafood harvesting experience. Your guides will share with you the pleasures of catching your own ocean bright Chinooks, fresh crabs, prawns, oysters and clams. Come aboard and learn the finer techniques of harvesting your own seafood delights. Great winter Chinook fishing in Barkley Sound and offshore banks (weather permitting) produce fish averaging 8 to 20 plus pounds. Herring move into Barkley Sound to spawn in the winter months making December, January, February and March primetime for these aggressive feeding Chinook salmon. Halibut and bottom fish can also be very abundant during the winter months. Don't forget, this is also the best time for Dungeness crabs, prawns, oysters and clams. While you run around the majestic Barkley Sound harvesting these tasty seafood treats, enjoy some of the finest nature viewing on the west coast. Regular viewings of gray, humpback and orca whales, sea lions, seals and soaring bald eagles make for a true westcoast experience. During the winter months most of our fishing, seafood harvesting and nature viewing is done in Barkley Sound where we are protected from the open ocean swells, making for a comfortable and enjoyable trip.

Full day tours: During the winter months of Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb, March and April, you usually leave the dock approximately 7:30 am and arrive back around 3:30 to 4:00 pm. Your full day winter charter takes place in the protected waters of Barkley Sound where we not only fish for salmon, halibut and bottomfish, but focus on the harvesting of dungeness crabs, prawns, oysters and clams. The day is customized to where the best fishing action and seafood harvesting is located. Full day winter charters are the most effective way to experience the true west coast as it gives us time to catch fish, crabs, prawns, oysters, and clams throughout the protected waters of Barkley Sound. Half day tours: Half day winter charters are ideal for the person who has limited time or just wants a sample of the west coast fishing experience. Half day winter charters can be arranged to start anytime in the morning or afternoon, but generally we like to start early in the morning and finish up around noon. You will fish for salmon, halibut and bottomfish in the protected waters of Barkley Sound. We generally finish the day by pulling crab traps on the way back to Ucluelet harbour.

| Restrictions: At the present time the limit for salmon and halibut are 2 chinook, 2 coho and 2 halibut per person a day. The possession limit over a two day plus period is 4 chinook, 4 coho and 3 halibut per person.

| Transportation: Trips originate and end in Ucluelet, BC. Follow the Island Highway #1 north just past Parksville and then take the Port Alberni Hwy 4 exit and continue on to Port Alberni and finally Ucluelet. Driving time from Nanaimo to Ucluelet is approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes, Victoria to Ucluelet 4 hours, and Vancouver approx. 6 hours (ferry included).

| Accommodations: Accommodations not included in the package but there is a wide range of places to stay in the Ucluelet and Long Beach area. Accommodations range from campgrounds to basic motels, B&B’s, rental cabins to high end resorts. |
