Packages consist of some or all of the following components: Lowland fern finder: Stroll along lowland trails to study ostrich, cinnamon and sensitive ferns, to name just a few. Learn how to identify common, lowland fern species, learn which produce edible ‘fiddleheads’ and how to responsibly harvest them for a delectable spring-time delicacy. Horse driving: Horse driving is the perfect introduction to the method of handling these Norwegian Fjord horses. Your guide will accompany you on your cart or wagon to teach you vocal commands and how to handle reins attached to halter – no bridles and bits here! Woodland wildflower stroll: The forest floor in summer offers up a visual feast of wild flowering plants in full bloom and developing fruit, an important source of food for our wildlife. Bunchberry, starflower, blue bead lily, Indian cucumber root and wild sarsaparilla are just a few of the species you’ll encounter on this hike. Ride and fish: Saddle up for a day-long riding adventure to the Cape Breton Highlands Plateau and a unique trout fishing expedition to Bell Lakes and an old fashioned, on-the-fire, just-caught lunch.
