Hiking tours on Mount Mye in central Yukon

Experience a unique hiking trip in the alpine tundra on one of these hiking expeditions on Mount Mye. These hikes take place above tree line and offer very scenic views and good chances to observe wildlife especially Fannin sheep and caribou. Feel like walking 8 to 9 hours carrying only a light pack? Go for the ascent of Mount Mye in one day! For those who want to spend the evening and the following morning watching for animals, you can do the two day option with an overnight stay on the mountain. This trek is suitable for anybody in good shape and good health. The one-day hike requires a very good physical condition. For a longer option the three day trek is suitable for anybody in good shape and good health. You will hike to the summit of Mount Mye and spend the first night on the top. The second day will lead you through a broad alpine valley to the next camp on a ridge. The third day you will descend through forests and hit the road.

Hiking tours on Mount Mye in central Yukon

Central Yukon hosts a unique diversitiy of wildlife. It is one of the richest areas in the Yukon. In the backcountry you will find caribou, moose, wolf and bear as well as the rare Fannin sheep. Elk and even cougar have also been spotted. Salmon spawn in the major rivers and streams. Many freshwater fishes including arctic grayling, lake trout and pike can be found in the lakes. Various migratory birds, especially sandhill cranes, fly over the Tintina trench during migration in May and September. The town of Faro is located on the north side of the Tintina trench that marks the division of the two essential components of Yukon geology. The rocks north-east of the trench are 300 to 1000 million years old, mainly sedimentary and represent the ancient North American margin. They were almost completely covered with glaciers during the last Ice Age. The terrain includes rolling uplands, groups of mountains and level tablelands dissected by deeply-cut broad valleys. The mountains south of the valley are sharp and high and more recent (20 to 300 million years). The Pelly river meanders trough the trench before flowing into the Yukon river about three hundred kilometers north-west from Faro.
