Jasper on foot on this backcountry hiking trip

The spectacular backcountry of Jasper National Park is yours to explore on foot from a rustic lodge on this hiking adventure. Wildlife sightings are common and may include mountain goats, bighorn sheep, black bears, elk and marmots. Relax back at the lodge and enjoy fine cooking and comfortable surroundings.

This Shovel Pass lodge is Jasper Park's oldest backcountry horse camp. While maintaining this traditional atmosphere the cabins have all been renovated, providing a comfortable base camp for an exciting hiking experience. Horses will carry all of your gear into the camp, allowing you to hike at a leisurely pace, enjoying the scenery and wildlife along the way. Once at the cabins, you are free to enjoy day hikes and photography safaris, setting your own itinerary and exploring the area at your own pace.

Requirements: Duffel bag, towels.
Suggested Items: Camera, binoculars, daypack, sunglasses, sunscreen, alcohol, water bottle and flashlight.
Suggested Clothing: Riding boots, warm clothing suited to a variety of weather conditions, rain gear, hat, shorts, hiking boots and sneakers.
Difficulty: Easy/Intermediate
Maximum Number of People: 18
Equipment Provided: Freighting of packs to camp.
Transportation: Trips originate and end in the town of Jasper, Alberta in Jasper National Park. Jasper can be reached from Edmonton on highway #16 west, about 370 km. Transportation arrangements available.
Accommodations: Private heated cabins with propane lighting. Wash stand with hot wash water provided. Outhouse facilities. This lodge is Jasper’s oldest backcountry lodge. Rebuilt in 1991, the facilities now include 7 guest cabins and a main chalet with dining room and kitchen. The cabins have propane heating and lighting with single or queen size log frame beds. Comforters and fresh linen are provided however guests should bring their own towels. Washstands are provided in cabins with hot water delivered daily.
Meal Information: Home cooked meals are served in the main lodge and are often regarded as the highlight of the trip. Fresh salads, ample meat and vegetables dishes along with plenty of desserts ensure that even the biggest appetite will be satisfied.
Guide Information: Licensed and experienced.
Weather Information: Summer temperatures average between 15-25 degrees celsius, with cool evenings and mornings.
