ABOUT THIS REGION  WILDLIFE WATCHING

Wildlife watching and more at this arctic lodge

View a variety of arctic wildlife from this remote northern lodge in Elu Inlet. Experience for yourself the adventure and allure of the Canadian Arctic in an environment virtually unchanged over the millennia. Under the fabled midnight sun, see the summer profusion of wildflower blossoms which blanket the barren land tundra. Marvel at the spectacle of musk oxen reminiscent of prehistoric times, and the unbelievable abundance and diversity of bird life in this pristine northern wilderness. Feel the sense of awe and discovery that the first European explorers felt on the 1821 Franklin Expedition in search of the Northwest Passage as you gaze over lands that are still unknown to virtually everyone but the local Inuit people.

The region around the lodge is a pristine, unexplored wilderness. So, while your guides do offer several pre-planned hikes and excursions, there are true discoveries to be made and adventure in every direction. The natural splendor of the brief but intense Arctic summer surrounds the lodge, making it a naturalist's paradise. Bird watchers will be astonished and delighted by both the frequency and abundance of sightings of species that any birder would love to see even once, including: king and common eider ducks, swans, snow geese, loons (3 species), sandhill cranes, gyrfalcons, peregrine falcons, golden eagles, rough-legged hawks and several species of gulls to name a few. A variety of day hikes and boat trips will offer opportunities for you to view muskox, caribou, grizzly bears, arctic wolves and arctic hare.
