Leaving the base at Truelove, you will hike up the Truelove River valley. Here you will spend the first night camped fairly close by, with opportunities to see muskox, arctic fox and adjust to 'life in the arctic'. Continuing inland, you will trek approximately 10 - 15 km per day, depending on terrain and weather. The rugged beauty of craggy cliffs, ice-capped hills and the amazing vistas are a photographer's delight. After ascending approximately 900 metres (2,800 feet) to the height of land, you will descend beside the Svedrup Glacier to its outlet into Jones Sound. You will then follow the coastline westward, past the Sparbo Hardy Lowlands and sites of may historic and prehistoric dwellings. The rich history of arctic exploration by hardy adventurers in search of the Northwest Passage, as well as civilizations of Thule and Dorset aboriginals make this a fascinating journey. This is an excellent, high arctic hike for the intermediate backpacker. The route contains a fantastic variety of experiences and a variety of terrain, however, the route may be changed somewhat depending on weather conditions and other variables.
