ABOUT THIS REGION  WALKING TOURS

Walking tours around Lake Ontario

Enjoy a walking tour around Lake Ontario. If you look at a map of Lake Ontario, you will find a small projection along the north shore; this is Ontario’s “Island County” – Prince Edward. This is a special spot, surrounded by Lake Ontario and the Bay of Quinte. This walking tour explores the unique character of “The County” as well as some closeby areas around the bay. We’ll see a city of birdhouses and listen to the theories explaining the mystery of Lake- on –the –Mountain and be enlightened by naturalist Terry Sprague as he leads us through the sand dunes which form the largest fresh water baymouth sandbar in the world. In recent years, the area has attracted many craftsmen and artisans and is a mecca for antique hunters. You'll have some time in the villages of Wellington and Bloomfield to look or shop. Of course, we’ll be staying in unique small inns and sampling the best of local cuisine.

Walking tours around Lake Ontario

You willl trek along the Murray Canal and the Trent Canal, cross a lake on an abandoned rail causeway and see apple orchards, dairy farms and cheese factories. Originally settled during and immediately after the American Revolution by United Empire Loyalists, it remains, in many respects, a place apart. This tour will include easy walks in three provincial parks, nature reserves, conservation areas, wetlands and sand beaches.
