Boat tour for orca exploration in Knight Inlet

The Knight Inlet area at the northern end of Vancouver Island is regarded by whale researchers as the best place in the world to observe orcas or killer whales. This boat tour allows you to observe and participate in some of the research of these amazing whales. The killer whale is one of the most exciting marine animals to observe, you will watch orcas forage for salmon, spyhop and breach - leaping clear out of the water. From whale researchers and the onboard naturalists, participants learn about the behaviour of these fascinating creatures, listen on the ship's underwater microphone, and learn to identify individual animals.

The exciting 'Orca & Grizzly Bear' trip combines majestic killer whales with the rare opportunity to see the powerful, grizzly bear. You voyage up scenic Knight Inlet to watch grizzly bears feed on spawning salmon in a mountain river. From the safety of the raised viewing platforms, local bear guides will inform and educate you. These islands protect a wealth of wildlife and native cultural history.

Requirements: Duffel bag, sleeping bag, pillow case.
Suggested Clothing: Rain gear, rubber boots, warm jacket, hat, gloves, long underwear, long pants, shorts, warm socks, t-shirts, swimsuit, sweater, sneakers, hiking boots.
Difficulty: Easy
Maximum Number of People: 16
Equipment Provided: The fully equipped vessel has safety equipment, electronic navigation, two inflatable rafts for onshore exploration and double kayaks are available for use.
Transportation: Trips originate and end in Port McNeill, BC located on the northeast side of Vancouver Island. Transportation arrangements available.
Accommodations: Accommodations are on the Island Odyssey or Island Roamer, a 68 foot ketch. The boat features 8 private cabins, 3 heads with hot showers, a large lounge with library and a fully equipped galley.
Meal Information: The meals aboard have been described has excellent, gourmet and abundant. Fresh wholesome meals are served with a varied menu.
Guide Information: The crew are experienced sailors and naturalists with extensive knowledge of the area. They will teach you about the diverse natural history of the area.
Weather Information: Summer temperatures are pleasant and average between 15 and 25 degrees celsius.
