ABOUT THIS REGION  CANOEING - RIVER TRIPS

Canoeing the scenic Bonaventure River

Recreate the voyages of the French explorers on this canoeing trip down the beautiful Bonaventure River. The Bonaventure River, which literally means "Good Adventure" in French, is said to be the prettiest canoeing river in Quebec. Your put in point for the canoeing trip is Bonaventure Lake, a picturesque lake in the heart of Parc de la Gaspesie. This lake is home to caribou, moose and deer and is your starting point for your 74 mile journey down the river to the ocean. Running through the heart of the Gaspesie, the river starts as a beautiful mountain stream, quite shallow, with gentle rapids and sun-dappled forested shores, perfect for camping. As you descend, the river starts to widen, taking you through forested gorges and past spectacular mountain vistas. Each night you will camp along the shores of the river as your guides prepare a delicious meal and you relax around the campfire.

Canoeing the scenic Bonaventure River

300 years ago Quebecois voyageurs explored the wild rivers that led far into the northwest. These lands were completed uncharted and today you can follow the paddle strokes of these explorers. The river is forgiving and does much of the paddle work for you as the current helps you downstream through runnable rapids, nothing higher than Class III.
